Heartwarming Quest
An act of welcome like this will have a big, lasting impact on these young men and it is so great to hear about it taking place in our community.
Making London Home
Acts of welcome not only capture the essence of camaraderie in our community, but by helping others find a place to call home, leave a positive impact that lasts a lifetime.
Lending a helping hand
Fellow immigrants empathize with and often lend a helping hand to newcomers trying to settle into the community.
United through pain
Pain has been found to be a powerful ingredient in bonding those who share a painful experience…
Cultural mosaic
The different cultures which we all bring are what make our city so vibrant, and such a welcoming place for all.
Small acts, big impacts
What may seem like a small gesture, can have a large, memorable impact on the recipient as the receivers of acts of welcome tell us.
Giving back
London is full of immigrants, and we find that many of our #1000actsofwelcome are initiated by immigrants themselves
Diversifying the workplace
For immigrants, finding meaningful employment in a new country can be a daunting task.
Finding similarities in differences
Donald and Tracy wrote in to tell us what they are doing to make London a more welcoming community for immigrants. Here are their stories:
Stonger together
It is sometimes difficult for non-immigrants to understand the many struggles that immigrants face in adjusting to life in a new country. While there is plenty to be thankful for, topics such as race, gender and religion are often used as the basis of discriminatory acts. Arguably children are the ones who are hurt most because of this.
A Very Canadian Thanksgiving
Families gather around their dinner tables to celebrate Thanksgiving. As newcomers, Huda and her family felt cold and lonely, it was only a few months since their arrival in Canada and they had not yet built their social network. But through an act of welcome by a couple they met through a volunteer experience, they felt they were not alone:
No Kidding Around!
What began as a light joke quickly grew into a new, supportive friendship.
A Christmas of New Beginnings
Christmas is a family-centred celebration that be difficult for many immigrants who are away from their home countries and traditions. The transition is made easier by the kindness of those who recognize this difficulty.
